BUCKSPORT – Ronald Cushing, 79, died Dec. 20, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 27, 1925, in Portland to Benjamin and Florence (Woodman) Cushing. He was one of nine siblings, including a twin brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Iris (Sutherland) Cushing; two daughters, Valorie Shaffner and her husband, Ray, and Kimberly Landry and her husband, Lionel; a son, Christopher Cushing; grandsons, Jason, Andr?s and Enrico; granddaughter, Samantha Chapin and her husband, Paul. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Pauline; his brother, Edward; two brothers-in-law, Charles Clough and Herb Lowell. Ron worked for St. Regis Paper Co. Bucksport (now International Paper Co.) for 36 years. He served in the Maine Legislature from 1965-1970. He and Iris were on a five person committee to draft Bucksport’s Town Charter. Ron also served on the Bucksport Town Council for 18 years, including one-term as mayor. A memorial service will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at the North Bucksport United Methodist Church, River Road, Bucksport, with Pastor Rose Krienke officiating. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Arey Community Center, across from the church, immediately following the service.
