BAR HARBOR – Ronald Evers, 58, of Bar Harbor, died at home on Aug. 6, 2004, of cancer. He was born April 11, 1946, in Norwich, Conn., to Cecil Calver Evers and Shirley J. Ostheimer. He served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Florida State University, where he met and married his wife, Vikki Erickson, in 1971. Together they moved to Maine in 1973, and started a natural food store in Orono. This enterprise eventually included a bakery, where Ron was well known for his breads and pastries. In 1984, they moved to Bar Harbor, where they restored a shorefront summer cottage named Nannau and opened it as a bed and breakfast the following year. Ron did much of the work that turned it into an elegant inn, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He was also a chess enthusiast and volunteered at the Connors Emerson School chess club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents of Sebring, Fla. No services are planned.
