BANGOR and ROBBINSTON – Ronald G. “Coach” Geagan, 68, husband of Audrey (Johnson) Geagan passed away Nov. 11, 2005, after a courageous three time battle with cancer. He was born July 4, 1937, in Bangor, the son of the late J. Fredrick and Arline (Crockett) Geagan. Ron lived in Bangor his entire life until 1968, when he retired from Bangor High School and moved Down East on the ocean where he loved his garden, beach, and watching the seals. Ron attended schools in Bangor graduating from John Bapst in 1955, where he starred in football, basketball and baseball. He entered Husson College in 1958 where he continued to be active in basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1962 from Husson College and returned to John Bapst to teach business subjects and coach football, basketball and golf. Ron had the biggest upset in high school tournament history when his John Bapst basketball team defeated Stearns in the tournament and ended an 81 game winning streak for the minutemen. In 1970, Ron joined the teaching staff at Bangor High School and taught business education and coached football, basketball and track. His teaching career ended in 1998 when he retired after a total of 37 years. He was an excellent classroom teacher and taught all of his students and players respect and dignity. Ron did not relax in the summer. While teaching he continued to work at Delta Airlines, the City of Bangor, and Bangor Raceway and Fair in a managerial position. He also worked at summer basketball camps and coached Little League Baseball in Bangor. Ronald was a long time member of the Elks Lodge No. 244 and was a past treasurer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Bushwhackers ATV Club in Down East Maine. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Audrey; two sons, Todd and his wife, Sharon, of Bangor and Sean and his wife, Kimberly, of Bucksport; one granddaughter, Kelli; two grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua; one brother, Robert and his wife, Ann, of Lucerne; two sisters, Patricia Lefebvre of Colorado, Lorraine and her husband, Thomas McKay, of Glenburn; a sister-in-law, Barbara Smith of California; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, John Geagan; two nieces, Christina and Heather. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the many friends and former associates who have been so helpful and supportive of Ron and the family during his extended illness. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Luquin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately following the interment.
