WALLINGFORD, Conn. – Ronald J. Varney, 60, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden, Conn. He was the husband of Diane Coman Varney. He was born Dec. 16, 1947, in Hartland, a son of Merlin and Phyllis Cooley Varney of Wallingford, Conn., where he had been a resident for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stanley Budleski Post No. 9965, Yalesville, Conn., and American Legion Siedlicki Post, Wallingford, Conn. He had been employed by Cytec, Wallingford, Conn., for 23 years, until his retirement and was a member of Masonic Compass Lodge No. 9 and First Baptist Church, both of Wallingford, Conn. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Whitney and her husband, James, of Wallingford, Conn.; his son, David Varney and his wife, Lisa, of Montville, Conn.; his four grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Ryan and Kyle; his two sisters, Gloria Smith and her husband, Jeff, of Carlisle, Pa., and Vicky Barnes and her husband, Walter, of Wallingford, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. His family will receive relatives and friends 4-7 p.m. Monday at Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Extension, Wallingford, Conn. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Wallingford, Conn. Interment will be private.
