WESTMANLAND – Ronald L. Nelson, 57, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1949, in Caribou, the son of Ralph and Frances Nelson. Ronald was a graduate of Caribou High School. He served his country in Vietnam and upon his discharge was highly decorated. He attained the rank of sergeant with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 502 Infantry, of the 101st Airborne Division. He had his own potato and cattle farm and also served as a selectman for the town of Westmanland, as well as their road commissioner and fire warden. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Perkins – Plourde American Legion Post No. 136. He is survived by his mother, Frances Nelson of New Sweden; two brothers, Melvin and his wife, Loretta, of New Sweden and Warren and his wife, Jane, of Millinocket; nephew, Neil of New Sweden; nieces, Nikki of Washburn and Johannah of Old Town; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be missed by a special friend, Karl Espling. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph Nelson. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jemtland Cemetery, New Sweden, with Deacon Dan Watson officiating. Arrangements in care of Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou.
