BAR HARBOR – Rose Adele (Long) Resseguie, 83, recently of Bar Harbor, passed away in the early morning of March 4, 2004. Rose was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Wichita, Kan., the second of four daughters of Minnie Esther (Pontius) and Cecil Bertram Long. Rose graduated salutatorian from Liberal High School, Liberal, Kans., and majored in English at Fort Hays State Teachers’ College. She never forgot her childhood years of growing up during the Great Depression in the dust bowl of Kansas. Her sisters, Lorraine, Virginia and Betty, were her best friends. During World War II, Rose worked as a civilian secretary at the U.S. Army Air Corps Port of Embarkation in Charleston, S.C. While there she met her future husband, Capt. John Walden Resseguie of Winchester, Va. After the war, Rose and Walden were married in Leominster, Mass., on Nov. 7, 1945. They lived in Leominster for 35 years, during which Walden, a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, built and presided over his business, Mohawk Wire and Cable Corp., and Rose raised their three daughters, Jane, Judith, and Joan. Rose’s special interests were gardening and sewing, including upholstering and drapery making. Growing roses became a shared hobby for Walden and Rose at their home on Mountain View Road. They enjoyed many trips to Florida and the Caribbean Islands. After retirement in 1980, Rose and Walden moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to be nearer their daughters and grandchildren. Walden died in 1983. Rose is survived by her daughters, Jane and her husband, Dennis Shubert, of Bangor, Judith and her husband, Jeffrey Beamish of Nantucket, Mass., and Joan Hunter of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Betty Travis of Tampa, Fla.; her former brother-in-law, Jack Eades of Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Kenyon, Zachary, Brooke, and Christopher Shubert, John Stobaugh and his fianc_e, Joyce Mason, Jennifer Stobaugh, James F. Hunter II and his father, Jim Hunter, of Fort Worth, Texas; John and Jeffrey Beamish; three nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Walden; and two sisters, Lorraine Eades and Virginia Burger. For the last seven months, Rose resided at the Birch Bay Village Retirement Community in Bar Harbor. He family wishes to thank all of the staff and employees at Birch Bay Inn, especially the caregivers in the Safe Harbor Wing, for the personal level of care and the atmosphere of dignity and respect always in evidence. To our friends and family members who enriched Rose’s life with kindness through conversation, cards, gifts, and visits, we will always appreciate the time you took to share yourselves with her. A private graveside service will be held at the Greenwood Memorial Park, in Fort Worth in the spring. Arrangements by Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert.
