BANGOR – Rosemary T. Riley passed Oct. 19, 2007, in Bangor, after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Bangor, the daughter of Mr. George F. and Mary (Meagher) Riley. Rosemary graduated from John Bapst High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College, Standish and a master’s degree from the University of Maine. She was a Fulbright Scholar, receiving a Diplome from La Sorbonne, Paris. She was also awarded the Honor of Outstanding Alumnae and inducted into the Walton Street Group of St. Joseph College. Rosemary taught foreign languages in Millinocket and Brewer for many years. She held membership in the Maine Teacher’s Association, National Education Association, the American Classical League, the American Association of Teachers of French, having served as past secretary and past president of the Foreign Language Teachers of Maine. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international honorary society for women in education, serving as past president of Alpha Chapter. Rosemary was an associate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americans and was a lifelong communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church and a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She also served on several boards. Rosemary will be remembered for her many kindness’ to so many people of the Greater Bangor community. She was predeceased by her parents; and by her brother, Lawrence Riley in 1994. She is survived by cousins; and a dear friend, Mary Dartnell of Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. Friends are invited to the parish hall immediately afterward for continued fellowship.
