BLAINE – Rowena S. Porter, 83, passed away March 21, 2007, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. Born Aug. 5, 1923, in Corinna, she was the daughter of Asa and Doris (Perkins) Kinney. She was married to the late Alvin F. Porter, June 27, 1945. She retired from the postal service after 17 years of service. She was an active member of the Happy Hour Club, Blaine Missionary Society and the First Free Baptist Church of Blaine. She was church treasurer for many years and served on the board of trustees. She also attended The Chapel in Fort Wayne, when staying with her daughter in Indiana. She is survived by her son, Richard A. Porter and wife, Pauline, of Blaine; and her daughter, Donna P. Nichols and husband, Kevin, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; her granddaughters, Tracey Milliard and husband, Steven, of Blaine and LauraLee Durost and husband, Troy, of Blaine; her five great-grandchildren, Bailee Durost, Courtney Milliard, Emilee Durost, Logan Milliard and Will Durost; four sisters-in-law, Helen Porter of Dade City, Fla., Majorie Porter of Bridgewater, Rilla Browning of South Windsor, Conn., and Madeline Kinney of Blaine; several nieces and nephews; and her life-long special friend, Charlene Ward. Besides her parents and husband, Rowena was predeceased by her sisters, Hope Lunn of Mars Hill, Irva Buchanan and Amy Marchant of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and one brother, Malcolm A. Kinney of Blaine. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. March 27, at the First Free Baptist Church of Blaine, with calling hours 1-2 p.m. before the service. The service will be officiated by her long-time friend, Pastor Lawrence Beals; and her son-in-law, the Rev. Kevin Nichols. Donations may be made to the church of your choice in her memory.
