OAKFIELD – Ruby May (Hersey) Sprague, 89, died Jan. 28, 2005, at her daughter’s home in Florida. She was born May 8, 1915, in Oakfield, the daughter of Wilbur and Kate (Sanders) Hersey. We are so thankful that she was home with her family and friends. Nana loved her flower gardens and she would spend much of her time caring for the beautiful flower beds at her home. She was well known in the area for her culinary talents, whether it was a cook on the railroad, managing her own restaurant, the “Pizza Shack”, cooking for her children at the school cafeteria or May Mountain ski area, or her Special dinner theater menus at Ricker College, she brought the art of cooking to every meal. She enjoyed cooking and shared her talent and recipes with many of us to now share with our families. May her memory and recipes live on for generations. She leaves behind her daughter, Donna and her son-in-law, Francis “Smokey” James of Island Falls; brothers, Albert Hersey and his wife, Leah, and Leroy Hersey and his wife, Donna, all of Oakfield. Nana will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Debra Dwyer, Barbara Barrows, Kellie James; great-grandchildren, Clayton Barrows, Joshua Dwyer and Jessica Barrows. We will always cherish her love, support, and unselfish devotion she gave us throughout the years. Many thanks to Bob Locke and his Monday morning ministry. Special thanks to Sandra and Carlene whose friendship was cherished. In lieu of flowers we ask you to contribute to the Mary Ann Sprague scholarship at SACS or the church of your choice. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
