CHARLOTTE – Russell Dale Kierstead Sr., 64, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Calais Regional Hospital, after a short illness. Russell was born Sept. 24, 1942, at home, in South End Eastport, son of Basil and Ferne (Newman) Kierstead. Russell worked as a carpenter for many years in Massachusetts and Maine with his brother, Stanley. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and numerous Rod & Gun clubs. Russell was well known locally for his artwork and his love of guns, many of which were highly engraved works of art. He enjoyed working on guns, shooting, the outdoors, metal detecting, and four wheeling with his family. Russell is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith (Merrick) Kierstead of Charlotte; his son, Russell Jr. of Eastport; daughter, Rhonda of Eastport; granddaughters, Bobbi-Sue of Charlotte, and Kayla of Eastport; grandson, Corey of Eastport; a great-granddaughter, Trinity of Charlotte; a great-grandson, Caven of Calais; his mother, Ferne L. Mitchell of Eastport; and his brothers, Stanley and companion, Jane, of Dixfield, Glen and wife, Jackie, of Colorado, and Robert and wife, Rebecca, of Eastport. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Hillside Cemetery, Eastport. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, Eastport.
