CARIBOU – Russell L. Hemberg, 79, died, Jan. 7, 2007, in Caribou. He was born Aug. 21, 1927, in New Sweden, the son of Lawrence and Mabel (Olander) Hemberg. He was a graduate of Caribou High School and the Business School of Commerce, Presque Isle. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Russell was a bookkeeper for many years at the Maine Potato Co. and Tibbetts TV and was the financial director at Caribou Nursing Home. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was also a member of the Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389 VFW and the Henry B. Pratt Post No. 15 American Legion. Russell was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather to his family. Russell loved to read and play sports, including baseball, bowling and fly-fishing. In later years, he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s many activities. He married Lorraine (Ouellette) Hemberg July 7, 1952. Surviving in addition to his wife of Caribou, are three daughters, Nancy Anderson and her companion, David Sterris, of Stockholm, Peggy Bosse and her husband, Michael, of Caribou and Susan Richards and her husband, Randy, of Presque Isle; eight grandchildren, Jillian, John, Adam, Scott, Meg, Evan, Cole and Kayla; one great-granddaughter, Molly, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, John Warren Hemberg; and a sister, Irene Poirier. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with services held 8 p.m. at the chapel of the funeral home with Fr. David Raymond officiating. Evening prayer services will be held 6 p.m. by the officers and members of the VFW. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
