ASHLAND – Ruth Ann Whipple, 61, died unexpectedly Sept. 14, 2004, at a Portland hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Sheridan, the daughter of Fred and Cecilia (Lajoie) Burby. For the past several months she was a resident of High View Manor nursing home in Madawaska, but had resided in the Ashland area most of her life. Ruth Ann is survived by one daughter, Peggy Whipple of Canton, Ohio; two sisters, Bertha Archer of Mapleton and Sarah Hunt of Chapman; four brothers, Gary Burby and Wayne Burby, both of Ashland; John Burby of Roadhouse, Ill., and Richard Burby of War Trace, Tenn.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by her close friend and companion of many years, Darius Soucy of Ashland. A graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the family lot of the St. Mark Cemetery, Sheridan.
