NORRIDGEWOCK – Ruth Evelyn Eames, 79, passed away Feb. 27, 2006, at Cedar Ridge Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Skowhegan. She was born Dec. 18, 1926, the daughter of Bertram and Carrie (Sturk) Frost. She graduated from Vanceboro High School in 1944 and went on to graduate from Gorham State Teacher’s College in Gorham in 1947, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She married Donald Eames, June 19, 1954, in Skowhegan. Ruth taught kindergarten and second grade in Skowhegan for 10 years. She also worked at the Lakewood Theaters during the summers many years ago. She was a past member of the SAD No. 54 school board and served as director of the board and was on the school board while plans were being made for the new high school. Ruth was also a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed painting, listening to music and playing the piano. She loved to sing and sang for the choir at the Federated Church in Skowhegan, where she was a past member. She was also a member of the Norridgewock Federated Church. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Donald Eames of Norridgewock; two sons, Samuel Eames and his wife, Pamela, of Norridgewock and Jonathan Eames and his wife, Andrea, of Brewer; stepdaughter, Susan Nutt and her husband, Robert, of Oak Park, Ill.; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Alana, Anna, Megan and Kristen; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two sisters, Helen Johnston and Inez Nash. At the family’s request, there will be no visitation, however a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Congregational Church in Norridgewock, with the Rev. Russell Lane and Nathan Richards officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Smart and Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
