ORONO and BANGOR Ruth (Hackett) Nadeau, 86, died Aug. 8, 2008, at her home in Orono. She was born in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Maurice and Mildred (Sanders) Hackett. She resided in Marquette, Mich., for several years, Washington, D.C., and then Maine. She married Arthur J. Nadeau Jr. of Fort Kent, at the Walter Reed Chapel, Washington, D.C., in 1943. She resided in Fort Kent for 27 years and was active in volunteer work for Fort Kent Public Library for 15 years, was a member and past president of Fort Kent Hospital Guild and Fort Kent BPW Club, and member of SAD 27 school board. After moving to Caribou, she became active in the Cary Medical Center Auxillary and also served on the medical center board of trustees. While living in Presque Isle, she was member and past president of Country Club Ladies Division and enjoyed golfing and bridge. When her husband retired, they moved to Falmouth, where she was a volunteer for World Affairs Council of Maine, Portland. Mrs. Nadeau was predeceased by her husband, Judge Arthur J. Nadeau. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Barbara Nadeau of Plano, Ill., Arthur III “Jim” and Sharon Nadeau of Presque Isle and Dr. Steven and Shelley Nadeau of Hampden; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Walter and Isabelle Hackett of Saugerties, N.Y., and William Hackett of Lakeland, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary-Louise and Ray Beauchamp of Marquette, Mich., and Lakeland, Fla.; and eight grandchildren, Andrew, Scott, Peter, Sean, Nicholas, Marcus, Shawna and Michelle Nadeau. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider. Interment will be beside her husband at St. Louis Cemetery, Fort Kent.
