STONINGTON – Margaret “Marg” Grindle, 82, passed away Aug. 8, 2008, at Blue Hill Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Stonington, daughter of the late James and Daisy (Stockbridge) Holland. Margaret had many careers in her life, her favorite, of which many knew her, was being the school lunch cook. She also cooked at Goose Cove Lodge. Margaret drove a school bus on the island for many years. She was also very active in the town government as a selectman. Margaret volunteered as a senior companion for many years. Margaret enjoyed her TV, especially watching golf, and playing cribbage. She was predeceased by four sisters, Alice, Myrtle, Marie and Leah; three brothers, John, James and Howard; two sons, Corliss Jipson and Leslie Hicks; one granddaughter, Sonya Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Lillian. Margaret is survived by three children, Judy Mitchell and husband, Randall, of Stonington, Roger Hicks and wife, Linda, of Bangor and Donna Richards and husband, William “Bill,” of Scotia, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Corliss and Alvernon and his wife, Olive; sister-in-law, Inez; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Norma and Jane. A time of remembrance and visiting will take place 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Church of the Nazarene, Stonington, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, officiated by Pastor John Hawkins. Family and friends are invited to a time of fellowship and refreshments after the service at the church.
