EASTPORT- Ruth J. (Cookson) Fales, 81, died June 25, 2008, at her home. She was born April 28, 1927, in Calais, to Clifford L. and Ethel M. (Loring) Cookson. Educated in the Calais and Bangor school systems, and as a 1947 nursing graduate of Eastern Maine General Hospital. She worked for 41 years as a registered nurse in various hospitals throughout the U.S. She was a member of Pythian Sisters, Eastport; Women of the Moose No. 1367, Winchester, Va.; Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post No. 3, Calais, and a lifetime member of Auxiliary North Mount Volunteer Fire Co., Winchester, Va. She is survived by her son, Curtis L. Johnson and his wife, Jacque, of Machiasport; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, John W. Cookson of Virginia; and a sister, Mary S. Zingg of California. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Sgt. Major William E. Fales, U.S. Marine Corps. Graveside services for Ruth J. and William E. Fales will be announced at a later date.
