ROCKLAND – Ruth J. Jacobs, 92, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a long period of declining health. Born Aug. 1, 1912, in Rockland, she was the only child of Adam J. and Carrie I. Lermond Nichols. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1940, and later attended Kents Hill School. She then completed dental hygienists studies at Forsythe School of Dentistry in Boston. During the early years of her career, she worked as a dental hygienist in Portland. She married Roy A. Jacobs in Pine Bluff, Ark. In pursuit of her husband’s Air Force career, Ruth lived in Arkansas, South Lynnfield, Mass., Rockland, Denver, Colo., Tacoma, Wash., Osterville, Mass. and Wiesbaden, Germany. Mrs. Jacobs loved Jazz and was a past member and president of the Osterville Garden Club. She was a longtime communicant of St. Peters Episcopal Church, Rockland. Mrs. Jacobs is survived by one son, R. Thomas Jacobs of Rockland. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A Eucharistic Celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Peters Episcopal Church, White Street, Rockland. The Rev. Ralph Moore will officiate. A reception will follow at the church, followed by interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Camden.
