BRUNSWICK – Ruth “Kitty” Fenwick, 77, passed away March 15, 2007, surrounded by her large and devoted family, at Maine Medical Center. Kitty was a fun-loving farm girl from Ripley. Growing up the only daughter of Roland Kittridge and Bertha Arno Kittridge’s four children, Kitty developed the wicked sense of humor, for which she was known throughout her life. She graduated from Eastern Maine’s nursing program and served as a nurse in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Kitty married Johnson Fenwick, in 1952. As they traveled together throughout New England for John’s work with the W.T. Grant Co., they raised five children. The Fenwick house was where the kids from the neighborhood always came to play. John’s final Grant’s transfer brought them back to Maine in 1968, where John co-founded Grand City, and they’ve lived on Shulman Drive, Brunswick, since then. Kitty was an active member of the community. She was an original volunteer for Meals on Wheels and delivered meals to individuals in the program for nearly 30 years. Kitty and her friends held season tickets at the Maine State Music Theater. A congregant of First Parish Church, Maine Street, her pies will be greatly missed at church dinners and bake sales. Kitty loved to cook and everyone loved to eat what she made. She cultivated a robust and rambling garden, and passed many summer days swimming at camp with her children and grandchildren. On a cloudy day she would peer up at the sky and declare confidently, “It’ll burn off.” In addition to her husband, John, Kitty’s family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Jeffrey Newell; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Fenwick and Stephen Clancy; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Elizabeth Fenwick; a daughter, Amy Campbell; and her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi Fenwick and Patrick Moore. She has eight grandchildren, Allison Huppe, Derek and Matthew Campbell, Evan Newell, and Maxwell, Kelsey, Hannah and Trevor Fenwick; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Kittridge Huppe. Kitty also is survived by her three brothers, Mack, Charlie and Roger Kittridge and their families. Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at First Parish Congregational Church. A reception will be held after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program, 81A Middle St., Brunswick, ME 04011 or a charity of the giver’s preference.
