LINCOLN and JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ruth Grant Wyman, 95, passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla. She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Cherryfield, the daughter of Eugene E. and Lola (Worster) Grant. She attended Cherryfield schools and graduated from Cherryfield Academy in 1928. She attended Washington State Normal School, Machias and the University of Maine. She held a State of Maine Life Teaching Certificate. She taught 28 years in several schools, the last eight years as an English teacher at Lee Junior High, Lee, retiring in 1962, after which she and her husband, Lewis, had many happy years of travel in their camper. She was well remembered by former students as an excellent teacher who made a difference. She was a longtime member of Lincoln Center Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday school. Her greatest pleasure was from her gardening and was well known throughout the Lincoln area for her lovely flower gardens. She married Lewis A. Wyman June 24, 1934, and resided in Chester until 1959, and then they moved to North Lincoln to a new home that Lewis built. She had resided in Jacksonville, Fla., with her daughter, Marilyn and beloved son-in-law for the past 15 years, coming to Lincoln in the summer months for a short time. She was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years in 1997; by her sister, Doris Grant; grandson, Robert A. Murphy III; and brothers-in-law, Gerald Morse and Grover Ramsdell. She is survived by two daughters, Necia Smith Yates and husband, Joseph E., of Levant and Marilyn L. Finch and very special son-in-law, Larry, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandsons, Brian D. Smith and wife, Joyce, of Machias, Chief Master Sgt. Alan L. Smith and wife, Ann Marie, of Kenduskeag, Command Sgt. Maj. David N. Smith and wife, Tracy, of Carmel; two granddaughters, Karen L. Hill of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Lauri A. Murphy of Jacksonville, Fla.; three stepgrandchildren, Regina Finch, Toshia Finch Yates, and Jeffery Finch and their families; five great-grandchildren, Shauna and Kurt Smith of Kenduskeag, Stephanie, Hannah and Cassie Smith of Carmel; stepgrandson, Joshua Rand of Machias; two sisters, Jeanette Morse Harmon and husband, Howard, of Cherryfield and Beulah Ramsdell of Harrington, a special nephew, Ernest Lee and his wife, Dorothy, of Mattawamkeag; several other nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call noon-1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service will be held after with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain, Penobscot County Sheriff Department, officiating. After the service, all are invited to a reception at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
