ORONO – Ruth Louise (Colford) Kinney died Aug. 3, 2007, at a local hospital, as the result of an aneurysm. She was born June 19, 1929, in Danforth, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Maddox) Colford. Ruth married Maurice Kinney and moved to Bangor in the 1940s. After raising her two daughters, Ruth learned to drive and became employed at Furbush Robers, retiring in 1995. Ruth was without a doubt the best baker of gingerbread cookies and brownies. Her joy in life was to cook for her grandsons and all their friends. She was also a person who could strike up a conversation with anyone, and by the time the conversation was over she had made a new friend. Ruth was affectionately known as “Goosie” by her best friends and loved to go dancing at the Blue Goose and go on adventures with them. In her later years, she loved to follow her grandsons’ games and interests. Tony, Joe and Mack were truly the loves of her life. Recently, she had so much fun visiting with her two-year-old great-grandson, Arion, who had come to visit her in May from Oklahoma City. She also was delighted to learn that in October a new great-grandchild was coming and it was a baby girl. Ruth grew up with her four brothers and they affectionately called her “Sis.” Many stories were told of how after her mom died when Ruth was 13, that the brothers made her life very interesting, to say the least. Ruth had a unique, loving relationship with her two daughters, who saw her through the death of her husband, many joys in her life and at times some sorrow. Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Maureen Caristi of Orono and Marlene Susi of Bangor and her husband, Frank, who was truly a son to her. She always said he was her favorite son-in-law and we would point out quickly that he was her only one! She is also survived by her three grandsons, Anthony Caristi and his wife, Sarah, of Oklahoma City, Joseph Caristi of Vail, Colo., and Mack Susi of Bangor; her great-grandson, Arion Caristi; her devoted brother, Derryl Colford and his wife, Carmen, of Bangor; sisters-in-law, Ruth Colford of Bangor, Joan Colford of Danforth, Avis Kinney Dunkle of East Hartford, Conn., Reta Kinney Herrick of Auburn, Marion Kinney of Tolland, Conn.; many nieces and nephews; and her two best friends, Irene Adams and Catherine Erickson, both of Holden. In addition to her parents and husband, Maurice, she was predeceased by her brothers, Roy, Sherrill and Ernie; and a baby grandson. The family will welcome friends and family 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Marlene’s home, 134 Saratoga Ave., Bangor. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Eaton Cemetery, Eaton, where Ruth will be laid to rest beside her husband and baby grandson. Ruth loved her time at Orono Senior Citizens, if you would like to remember her in a special way gifts in her memory may be sent to Orono Senior Citizens, care of Irene Dupuis, 100 Mill St., Orono, ME 04473.
