BANGOR – Ruth M. Hanscom, 75, died Jan. 12, 2007, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Bangor, daughter of William L. and Laura (Helms) Potter. Ruth was a great stay at home mother and dearly loved all of her family and especially her children and grandchildren. She attended Bangor schools. She is survived by two children, Stanley Hanscom and wife, Sherry, of Hermon, Joyce Chapman and husband, Mike, of Bangor; dearly loved brothers and sisters, Bertha Brooks of Florida, Ethel Turner of Bangor, George Potter and wife, Elaine, of Bangor, Eugene Potter and wife, Lorraine, of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren, Susan, Shawn, Todd, Shelly, Sarah, Clyde, Shawn C., Eric, Kevin and Philip; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Laurence B. Hanscom in 2005; three brothers, Ralph, William and Frank; and a sister, Myrtle. A special thanks to the staff of Westgate Manor and Hospice of Eastern Maine for the wonderful care they provided. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, with Pastor Buddy Gough officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. Gifts in her memory may be made to Westgate Manor activity fund, 750 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401.
