WORCESTER, Mass. – Ruth (Wahlstrom) Norwood, 82, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Worcester, Mass., after a long illness. Ruth was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Worcester, Mass. She and her husband were residents of Auburn, Mass., for 48 years. They were also part-time residents of Ogunquit and enjoyed their summer cottage there for more than 30 years. Ruth worked as a teacher’s assistant in an Auburn, Mass., elementary school for many years. She was a banquet waitress at Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass., and also the former Yankee Drummer Inn, Auburn, Mass. She always looked forward to spending time with members of her family and many friends. She loved being near the ocean, their 19 cruises to many islands, classic adventure movies and reading. She leaves her son, Robert C. Norwood and his wife, Susan, of Framingham, Mass.; and daughters, Debra L. Nordberg and her husband, Paul, of Auburn, Mass., and Nancy A. Gray and her husband, Gregory, of Brooklin. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Susan, Amy, Karen, Lisa, Kevin, Bryan and Gretchen; as well as four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Kyra and Kyle. Other survivors include a sister, Jean Berthiaume and her husband, Richard, of Auburn, Mass.; and two stepgrandchildren, Meaghan and Elizabeth. Her husband of 63 years, Robert E. Norwood, died in April 2007. The family extends their collective thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center for the loving care that Ruth received during her stay there. Calling hours were held Tuesday, June 24, at Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn, Mass. Her funeral service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at the funeral home.
