CLEARWATER, Fla. and CUTLER – Ruth (McGuire) Simpson, 83, passed away Feb. 8, 2007, in Clearwater, Fla. She was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Cutler, the daughter of the late Millard and Agatha (Bryant) McGuire. Ruth spent her childhood in Cutler. After graduating from Washington Academy, Ruth moved to Washington, D.C., where she attended George Washington University and began her career working for the U.S. government. Ruth married William “Bill” Simpson, November 1969 and moved to Alexandria, Va., where she helped raise Bill’s son, Rick. Ruth befriended Bill’s other sons, Jerry and Eddie and became a grandmother to six grandchildren. She was a very devoted wife and a great companion to Bill and they enjoyed spending time together. Ruth was a very polite, friendly and stylish woman, who took pride in her home, appearance and career. She had a knack for gardening and cooking, which showed in the landscaping of her homes and the delicious meals she served to family and friends. Ruth’s other hobbies included reading, bowling, crossword puzzles and shopping. Ruth had an accomplished career working for the Department of the Army and the Defense Mapping Agency, and was known by her fellow co-workers for her knowledge, dedication and integrity. As a native of Maine, Ruth had many fond memories of growing up in a fishing town, where the lobster was plentiful, the people were friendly and the scenery magnificent. Ruth and Bill took yearly trips to her beloved Maine to visit with family and friends. After her retirement in 1983, Bill and Ruth spent their summers in Maine and winters in Florida, until Bill’s death September 1994. Ruth continued her yearly trek to Maine alone until fall 2000.
