STOCKTON SPRINGS – Ruth O’Leary Higgins, 92, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at a local healthcare facility. She was born April 12, 1913, the daughter of the late Basil and Annie (Teed) Drew. She graduated from Freedom Academy in 1930 and then studied for a nursing career. Ruth was a registered nurse retiring in 1976. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Ervin O’Leary in 1958; and her second husband, Arnold Higgins in 2005; a dear daughter, Hazel O’Leary Marcia; brothers, Norman Drew, Roger Drew, Carl Drew, Cecil Drew and Frank Drew. Ruth is survived by three children, Basil O’Leary and wife, Linda, of Derry, N.H., Darrell O’Leary and wife, Donna, of Belfast and Beryl O’Leary Libby and husband, Lawrence, of Stockton Springs; a stepson, Porter Higgins of Clearwater, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Laurel Drew of Thorndike; and a sister, Marion Curtis of Belfast; many nieces and nephews. Ruth was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth. A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Court Street, Belfast.
