WINTER HARBOR – Ruth R. Hooper, 98, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at her home. She was born Aug. 5, 1908, in Gouldsboro, the daughter of the late Arthur and Etta (Colson) Rice. She was also a stepdaughter to Chester Dutch Rice. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pat of New York; a grandson, Bobby; granddaughter, Christine and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew, Hugh Hooper and his wife, Judy. She was a great-aunt to Bill and Lisa Hooper and Bub and Jenna Shorey; and a great-great-aunt to Drew, Sarah, Jacob and Hannah. She will be remembered fondly by Barbara Crowley, Bob and Ruby Bragdon, Francis Larson and Dana Murphy. She was the holder of the Boston Post Cane for being the oldest resident of Winter Harbor. She was predeceased by her husband, John Hooper; a brother, Clinton; and a son, Robert. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Mill Stream Apartments Community Center, Hillcrest Street, Winter Harbor. Burial will be held after at South Gouldsboro Cemetery, South Gouldsboro.
