ASHLAND – Sara R. “Sally” Martin, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jan. 28, 2007, surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer, at her residence. She was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Ashland, the daughter of Errol and Una (Gardner) Rand. Sally was best known for her precious gift of patchwork quilting, with which she clothed many a bed, the warmth of her tender love forever wrapped. Her hobbies, other than quilting included knitting and wallpapering. She was a very kind and compassionate person and will be sadly missed by all. Sally was a member of the Ashland Advent Christian Church and was very involved as a deaconess and the church’s Women’s Home and Foreign Missions Society. She is survived by six sons, Kent Martin and his wife, Mary, Frank Martin Jr. and his wife, Carol, Tom Martin and his wife, Lisa and Philip Martin, all of Ashland, Brian “Gar” Martin and his wife, Sue, of Wallingford, Conn., and Scott Martin and his wife, Ruth, of Frankfort; one daughter, Dale Bragdon and her husband, Donald, of Waldoboro; one brother, Wesley “Bink” Rand and his wife, Lou; one sister, Edna Ellis and her husband, Malcolm, all of Ashland; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children, many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank “Mush” Martin Sr. in 1984; by a sister, Ada Snowman; and recently by a dear friend, Hector Michaud. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Ashland Advent Christian Church. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. William Harris, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will be at Ashland Municipal Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute in her memory to the Ashland Advent Christian Church Mission Fund.
