DOVER-FOXCROFT and ALFRED – Sara R. Hesketh passed peacefully from this life Feb. 9, 2005, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford, just one month shy of her 77th birthday. She was born March 9, 1928, in Portland, the daughter of Philip S. and Doris (Mahoney) Ramsay. She graduated from Kennett High School in Conway, N.H., and from Keene State Teachers’ College in Keene, N.H. with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics for two years in New Hampshire schools. She relocated to Dover-Foxcroft, after taking a position with the Extension Service there, and soon after, married Charles E. Hesketh, a dairy farmer from Dover-Foxcroft. They recently celebrated their 48th anniversary. In the 1950’s, she was actively involved in 4H in Piscataquis County, and taught Home Economics in the Milo School system for two years. She was also a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. Sally, as she was known to everyone, loved researching her family’s genealogy and history in the area libraries. She was a member of the Thompson Free Library Board of Trustees in Dover-Foxcroft for many years, and took great pride in supporting the library. She was an avid follower of professional and college hockey, and in particular, the University of Maine Men’s Hockey team. She never missed listening to a game. We are so glad she was able to finally see the Red Sox win their World Series this past year, and the Patriots winning another Super Bowl, both teams also favorites of hers. She especially loved her two grandchildren, and enjoyed following their daily exploits. She touched many people, and will continue to live on in fond memories of all whom she knew and cared for. She also enjoyed working in her many flower gardens, knitting winter scarves, hats, and mittens for her grandchildren and all forms of sports talk radio. She is survived by her husband, Charles of Alfred; her sister, Carolyn R. Baston, of South Hadley, Mass.; two children, Philip Hesketh of Sanford; and Melinda Hesketh of Gorham; two grandchildren, Zachary Philip Hesketh and Conor Colby Hesketh, both of Sanford; a nephew, and numerous cousins. A celebration of her life at the family lot in Dover Cemetery will be announced in the spring by the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
