FALMOUTH, Va. – Sgt. Major Earl V. Stinson Jr., U.S. Army, retired, 66, passed away March 21, 2008, at his home. A native of Danforth, he was the eldest son of the late Earl V. Stinson Sr. and Viola Foss Stinson. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served in Vietnam. His tour of duty included stations in Asia, Europe and the U.S. He retired after 24 years of active duty and continued as a senior Army logistician in the civil service, at the Pentagon, retiring in 2003 to explore his love of fishing. Throughout his lifetime, he earned his degree in business and management, and received various accommodations to include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service and Army Commendation Medals. Mr. Stinson was a member of the American Legion, Danforth Chapter, and an active nature conservationist. He is survived by his daughter, Julia Ramey and her husband, Kenneth, of Virginia; one granddaughter, Katelyn Ramey; and siblings, Rex Stinson, Serena Caron, Lois DiCentes, all of Maine, James Stinson of Florida, and Jeffrey Stinson of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Christel; and his brother, Martin Stinson. A military honor service was held March 31, at Quantico National Cemetery.
