OLD TOWN – Shady Blackwell Jr., 61, husband of Janet (Arnold) Blackwell, passed away Feb. 14, 2006, at his home. He was born April 2, 1944, in Bangor, a son of Shady and Evelyn (McPherson) Blackwell Sr. He graduated from Carmel High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was an active supporter of little league baseball serving in many capacities over the years. He was an avid sports fan and golfer. Shady was head custodian at Old Town High School for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Old Town; father, Shady Sr. of Carmel; two daughters, April Blackwell and companion, Matthew Goodine, of Old Town and Brooke McLaughlin and husband, Adam, of Hampden; two sons, Jay Blackwell of Sarasota, Fla. and Shady Blackwell III and wife, Melissa, of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Amanda and Devin Goodine, Mycheal Goodine, Michael and Katherine Blackwell; brothers and sisters, Mary Perry and husband, Frank, of Carmel, David Blackwell and wife, Gundy, of Bangor, Diane Tozier of Bangor, Linda Blackwell of Bangor, Daniel Blackwell and wife, Melba, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Rebecca Foley and husband, Jim, of Winterport; sisters-in-law, Stacy Blackwell of North Yarmouth and Nora Riley and her husband, Donald, of Eddington; mother-in-law, Edwina Arnold of Eddington; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by special friends, Danny King and Ed Taylor. Shady was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn and brother, John. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. Interment will be private at a later date.
