CLAREMONT, N.H. – Sharon E. Leavitt, 64, of Sunset Street and formerly of East Street in Claremont, N.H., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at her home, following a sudden illness. She was born Sept. 24, 1939, in Old Town, the daughter of Willard E. and Frances P. (Swett) Buck. She had been a Claremont resident since 1981. She graduated in 1957 from Howland High School. She attended one year of schooling as a dental hygienist at Forsyth College, which is an affiliate of Tufts University in Boston, Mass. She had previously moved from Maine to Pennsylvania in 1977, then to Ohio, where she lived for two and a half years before moving to Claremont. On May 23, 1959, she married Norman Leavitt. While in Maine, Sharon worked as a dental hygienist with Dr. Sewall, Dr. Gleason, and Dr. Berg in the Howland-Bangor area. She was very active when her children were growing up with the United Methodist Church in Howland. Sharon then held secretarial positions with Southbranch Lumber and Lincoln Pulp and Paper and after moving to Claremont, was employed as a billing clerk by the Argus Champion. Sharon was noted for her homemade doughnuts, which she donated for many church events. Sharon was an extremely gracious lady and had a wonderful sense of love for her family and friends. She was very dedicated to her family and encouraged her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. Members of her surviving family include her husband, Norman Leavitt of Claremont, N.H.; a son, Scott Leavitt of Claremont, N.H.; a daughter, Andrea Jenkins of Forest City, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Christopher Jenkins, Brian Jenkins, Kori Jenkins, Andrew Campbell, Kyle Campbell, Benjamin Leavitt, Matthew Greenwood; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Emily Greenwood; two brothers, Richard Buck and Donald Buck, both of Sebois; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Shaun Lee Campbell, who died on May 9, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Roy Funeral Home, with Pastor J. Michael Sanborn of the West Unity Community Church, officiating. Following cremation, committal services will be held later in the spring.
