OLD TOWN and SAVANNAH, GA. – Sheldon G. Mader, 74, of Skidaway Island, Ga. and Old Town, died after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis May 17, 2004. He was born June 25, 1929, in New Orleans, La. the son of Ethel and Hazen Mader. Shelly graduated from Cooper Union, New York City with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, and was a professional engineer. He worked for Westvaco Paper Co. for 36 years until his retirement as manager of engineering in 1986. He was a member of TAPPI, Kiwanis, Rotary, “FLAGS” golfers group, Adult Forum Sunday School Class, Skidaway Woodcrafters, and tutored at Bethesda for some time. Shelly’s retirement years were filled with golf, a game he loved to play and watch, always trying to learn more from studying the pros; and sailing on Long Island Sound and Pushaw Lake, where he summered for many years. Throughout his life, he had an avid interest in architectural design and he used his knowledge and skills for business as well as family and friends with home additions and renovations. He loved woodworking and was an excellent craftsman. Family life was Shelly’s greatest joy. He loved his wife, children and grandson. He is survived by Carol, his best friend and loving wife of 50 years; two daughters, Nancy Bousquet and her husband, J.P. of Norcross, Ga. and Alison Chapman and her husband, Steve of Alton; special grandson, Max Chapman; one sister, Mary Cornell and her husband, Ralph of Livingston, N.J. and their children; one brother, Arthur Mader and his wife, Jean of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Lynne Knippler of Great River, N.Y and Old Town; Max’s Mane aunt Bobbie Fowler of Old Town, and great lifetime friend, Frank Lewicki and his wife, Barbara of Waltham, Mass. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In the words of the former President of Westvaco, “We can never replace a wonderful human being with words.” A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Old Town United Methodist Church and at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church at a future date.
