OTIS and BREWER – Sherman V. Grant, 89, passed away peacefully April 22, 2008, at a Brewer health care facility. He was born July 11, 1918, in Parkman, the son of Vernal J. and Eldusta B. (Fraser) Grant. Sherman grew up in Parkman and graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1936. After graduation he worked for more than 25 years at Cole’s Express, Bangor, as a truck driver. He was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church, Brewer, for more than 50 years, a charter member of Tres Dias of Maine, a member of Ralph J. Pollard Masonic Lodge No. 217 of Orrington, Scottish and York Rites of the Masonic Orders, past high priest of Royal Arch Chapter No. 75 of Hampden, Anah Temple Shrine and Arab Patrol, life member of Millwee Chapter No. 198 OES of Orrington, past master of Minerva Grange No. 383 of Levant, member of Penobscot Pamona Grange No. 8, Mariaville Grange No. 441, as well as a member of Brewer Senior Citizens. Surviving Sherman are two children, Janice G. Hoffman and her husband, Boyce, of Bastrop, Texas, and Joyce Wasson and her husband, Laurence, of Otis; six grandchildren, Valerie H. Spencer and her husband, Michael Scott French, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Robert J. Roy Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Holden, Lorraine Hoffman of Austin, Texas, Lee-Anne Jones and companion, Mike Cook, of Ellsworth, Sean Wasson of Orono and Brian Wasson and wife, Melissa, of Levant; 12 great-grandchildren, Kolby, B.J., Stephen, Renee, Kimberley, Megan, Mallorie, Monica, Michael, Chelsea, Joy and Wyatt; nine great-great-grandchildren; as well as his companion, Hilda Salisbury of Otis. Sherman was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Alice M. (Adams) Grant; three sisters, Affie Perkins, Agnes Lindsay and Ina Church; and one brother, Robert Grant. The family expresses their appreciation to the staff at Brewer Rehabilitation and Living Center for their compassionate and loving care of Sherman. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at First United Methodist Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. George E. Curtis III, pastor, officiating. Burial at Harts Corner Cemetery, Holden, will be immediately after a gathering in the fellowship hall, where family and friends are invited to share in a light lunch and a continued time of remembrance.
