LINCOLN – Sherry Elaine (Thurlow) Clay, 55, wife of Hervey E. Clay, died unexpectedly Nov. 21, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 7, 1950, in Lincoln, the daughter of Willmont and Jean (Harris) Thurlow. Sherry grew up on the Dodlin Road in Enfield and attended Enfield Schools. She graduated from Penobscot Valley High School in 1968 and worked in local nursing homes as a nurse’s aid for a short time. On June 21, 1969, she married Hervey Clay and was a stay at home mom until 1988, when she went to work at the Clay Funeral Home, where she was the treasurer and office manager, a position she held at the time of her death. She enjoyed her recent trips to Myrtle Beach. She enjoyed frequent family gatherings and dearly loved her family. She was a girl scout leader for a while, was a member and secretary/treasurer of the South Lincoln Community Progress Club and was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church of Lincoln. In addition to her parents, Willmont and Jean of Enfield; and her husband, Hervey; she is survived by four children, Vicki Clay and her husband, Steve Dickey, Stephen Clay and his wife, Annette, Katie Clay and Samuel Clay and his wife, Breanah, all of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Brianne, Emily, Adam and Paige Libby, Brandon Wardwell and Jonathan Clay, all of Lincoln; three brothers, Ronald Thurlow and his wife, Celeste and Jeffrey Thurlow and his wife, Mary Jean, all of Massachusetts and Kelsey Thurlow and his wife, Linda, of New York; two sisters, LuAnn Wells and her husband, Steve, of Missouri and Denise McCormick and her husband, Mitch, of Islesford; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Clifford and her husband, Dale, of Haynesville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Terry Upcott officiating.
