ST. ALBANS – Shirley A. Byrd, 68, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 20, 2003, after a short battle with cancer and will be sadly missed. She was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Roger and Lucille (Gerry) Baker. She worked for many years for Guilford of Maine in Newport. Shirley was actively involved in the First Free Baptist Church in Dexter and was involved with many ladies clubs. She is survived by her mother, Lucille Schriver of California; two loving daughters, Alice and her husband, Greg Hathaway, of Dexter, and Janiece Kearney of Long Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler of Dexter, and Alisha and Bobby of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Morgan of North Carolina; two aunts, Emma Conley and Mildred Gerry, both of Ohio; a special friend, Dora Gardiner of Dexter. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Free Baptist Church in Dexter, with the Rev. Will Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Crocker Cemetery in St. Albans.
