ORLAND – Shirley Ann (Soukup) Deans, 57, died Oct. 9, 2004, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous two year battle with lung and brain cancer. She was born Sept. 8, 1947, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Harold John and Vera Mae (Gillie) Soukup. Shirley worked for a few years at Ellsworth Knitting Mill and retired form the Penobscot Nursing Home after 30 years of service. She enjoyed camping and going to the beach with her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her husband of 33 years, Lewis E. Deans of Orland; mother, Vera Mae Soukup of Southwest Harbor; daughter, Sheri Deans of Bucksport; son, Randy Maddocks of Ellsworth; sisters, Janice Cote and husband, Dan, of Lewiston, Wilma Waterman and husband, Michael, of Trenton; brothers, William Soukup and wife, Shirley, of Southwest Harbor, Jay Soukup of Southwest Harbor; grandchildren, Brandon and Jordan Kelley of Bucksport, Hannah Maddocks of Hampden; several nieces, nephews, friends and in-laws. Shirley was predeceased by her father, Harold J. Soukup in March 2004. At Shirley’s request, services will be private.
