BANGOR – Shirley Anne (Proctor) Ventry Comingo Wellman, 75, loving mother, passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2007, surrounded by family and loved ones, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Bangor, the daughter of William Joseph and Florence E. (Branscombe) Proctor. Shirley was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. She graduated from Catholic schools in Bangor. Shirley had an array of interests. She worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center and later as a waitress at Perry’s Restaurant. Shirley also completed volunteer work, last being where she resided, Meals for ME, bingo and dinners for residents. She was an Eagle Club member and enjoyed attending many dinners and functions with friends. She enjoyed watching her son perform on stage, rarely missing a performance. Shirley enjoyed reading, westerns, romance novels and loved dotting on her grandchildren. She always had a smile, a good word and a great sense of humor. She is survived by four children, Joseph A. Ventry of Ocala, Fla., George E. Comingo of Glenburn, Sharon K. Proulx of Eddington and Paul R. Wellman of Deposit, N.Y.; a brother, George F. Proctor of Maine; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Michael J. Ventry; several brothers and sisters. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, Catholic chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Nason Park Manor Community Room, 140 Hancock St., Bangor.
