PETER KEITH TAPLEY BLYTHEWOOD, S.C., and HAMPDEN – Peter Keith Tapley, 62, died peacefully Aug. 27, 2007, after a long illness. He was born Nov. 24, 1944, in Hartland, a son of Keith and Estelle (Randlett) Tapley. Peter graduated from Hartland Academy, Class of 1963 and graduated from Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, Class of 1967. After three years as an engineer in the merchant marines, Peter was employed as an engineer for eight years with General Electric Co., Schenectady, N.Y. In 1978, Peter returned to Maine with his family, settling in Hampden, where he was employed as a sales engineer to the pulp and paper industry until 2003, when illness forced him to retire. Peter is survived by his wife, Corinne (MacCabe) Tapley; his two sons and their families, Jonathan and wife, Joy, and daughter, Megan, of Irmo, S.C., and Jeffrey and wife, Carrie, and daughters, Erin and Sara, of West End, N.C. He is also survived by his mother, Estelle Tapley of Hartland; two sisters, Shari Vigue of Old Orchard Beach and Deborah Tapley and partner, Deborah Francis, of Lexington, S.C.; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter was predeceased by his father, Keith Rees Tapley; and his grandparents, Ada and Linwood Randlett, and Amber and Hale Tapley. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Grace Linn United Methodist Church, Hartland, with the Rev. Margo Carmines officiating. Family and friends will gather after the service at Grace Linn United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peter’s memory may be made to Grace Linn United Methodist Church, 8 Seekins St., Hartland, ME 04943 or any hospice program of one’s choice.
