FAIRFIELD – Shirley R. Remmers, 76, of Barber Street, Zephyrhills, Fla., died Wednes-day evening, Oct. 31, 2007, with her family by her side at her son’s residence in Fairfield. She was born in Waterville, daughter of Perley and Florence (Audet) York. She attended Waterville schools, graduating 1948 from Waterville High School. She also attended Thomas College. Shirley worked as a waitress at the former Jefferson, Waterville and later was employed for the former LaVerdiere’s Super Drugstore for 27 years, until her retirement. She was an avid golfer and former member of Waterville Country Club, past president of Waterville Country Club Women’s Association, past president of Maine State Women’s Golf Association, also a former member of BETMAR Acres Golf Club, Zephyrhills, Fla. She also enjoyed playing Euchre, ice skating, dancing and bingo. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Reginald LaVerdiere. She leaves two sons, Michael G. and his wife, Debbie Remmers, of Fairfield, and Timothy R. and his wife, Denise Remmers, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; four daughters, Patricia and her husband, Bradley Ross, of Winslow, Michelle F. Melfa of Zephyrhills, Fla., Kelly L. Roy and her special friend, Scott Yoos, of Athens, and Shirley R. Remmers of Whitefield; two sisters, Doris Armstrong of Waterville, and Pauline and her husband, Richard Denis, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and a brother, Perley and his wife, Tina York, of Bucksport; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of HealthReach Hospice for their excellent care of Shirley. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville. Interment will be private.
