PRESQUE ISLE – Sidney E. Sherwood, 79, died May 13, 2005, at a Houlton health-care facility. He was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Reed Plantation, the son of Frank and Florence (Gray) Sherwood. He had been an active member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle serving as treasurer for many years. He had been employed by Tingley Bakery, the B & A Railroad, was a truck driver for Potato Service in Presque Isle and was a broker for Newton Trucking Company for many years. Sid served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a life member of Ray Goding Post No. 88 American Legion, Presque Isle, where he helped organize the Hunters Breakfast for 27 years. He was also a member of Trinity Lodge No. 130 AF & AM, Presque Isle and the Danforth Alumni Association. Surviving him is his wife, Lorraine (Kelley) Sherwood of Presque Isle; two sons, Sidney Richard Sherwood and his wife, Jerrianne, of Houlton and Gregory A. Sherwood of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Bonnie Clark and her husband, Buddy, of New Limerick; grandchildren, Toni, Ricky and Amy Jo Sherwood, Troy Hastey, Jason Lavaway, Crystal and Allen Sherwood, Brianne Hardgrove, Stephanie Coffin, Cobie Dickinson and Amber Mullen; great-grandchildren, Jake, Mathieu and Jessie Sherwood, Macey Coffin, Maddison and John Coffin and Andrew Sherwood; a sister, Geraldine White and her husband, Frederick, of Houlton; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceasing him were two sons, Ronald F. and Calvin E. Sherwood. Relatives and friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Ackerson officiating. A military committal service will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle.
