ELLSWORTH and ATHENS – Sonya Ellen Ruoss, 66, went home to be with her Lord Nov. 30, 2005, after a courageous three year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Prospect Harbor the daughter of Wilfred and Irene (Moore) Madore. Sonya was a very special person to many that knew her. She was a wonderful mother and a loving grandmother, her grandchildren loved her dearly. She enjoyed those family times together, we have had many laughs and we will miss her. She was busy, independent and did the things she wanted to do. She fought the cancer; she bounced back so many times and had a strong will to live. Recently, she decided her battle was over, she’s tired of fighting, and her quality of life wasn’t what she wanted. She would miss us all. We will never, ever forget you, you have played a big role in all your children’s lives. Our hope is to be with you again. We won’t say good-bye, we’ll see you in Heaven. She graduated from Sumner High School. She was a Red Sox fan, Maine Hockey fan and enjoyed Beano. Sonya attended the Church of Open Bible in Athens. She is survived by her four children all of Ellsworth; sons, Mark Sargent and his wife, Kim, Matthew Sargent and wife, Patricia, Jason Sargent; daughter, Annette Lindsey and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Travis, Derek, Erika, Jared, Delaney and Hannah; brothers, Michael Madore and wife, Nancy, of Ellsworth and Florida, Brian Madore and wife, Brenda, of Georgetown; sisters, Carole Peterson and husband, Keith, of Iowa, Joyce Anderson and husband, Dennis, of North Dakota; several nieces and nephews and two special friends, Ron Ruoss and Everett Winters. She was predeceased by her parents, stepfather, Gerald Fletcher; and a brother, Billy Madore. Calling hours will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Maine Coast Baptist Church, Bangor Road, Ellsworth where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, with Pastor Gerry Dill officiating. Interment will be at Prospect Harbor Cemetery, Prospect Harbor. Contributions in Sonya’s memory may be made to the Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care, 50 Union St. Ellsworth, ME 04605.
