CAMDEN – Sophie Ann Karod, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center. Born on Sept. 10, 1912, in New York Mills, N.Y., she was the daughter of Stanley and Apolonia (Lupa) Prymas. She married Walter Stanley Karod on May 4, 1935, in New York Mills, N.Y. Mrs. Karod was employed by the Utica Cutlery Company in New York Mills for many years as a packer. In 1984, they moved to the Highland Park Apartments in Camden. Mrs. Karod was a great cook and was known for her fine Polish cuisine. She taught her grandchildren how to cook Polish foods. She enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers and was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Walter S. Karod of Camden; two sons, Stanley Karod and his wife, Linda, of Camden, Richard M. Karod and his wife, Diana, of Maineville, Ohio; four grandchildren, John Karod and his wife, Heidi, of Rockport, Thomas Karod and his wife, Stephanie, of Belfast, Mandy Hollis of Adams Center, N.Y., and Wendy O’Brien and her husband, Steve, of Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Sophie O’Brien, MacKenzie Hollis, Keith Hollis, Christina Karod, Jennifer Karod, William Thomas Karod, and Madeline Sophie Karod; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Louis Prymas, Joseph Prymas; and three sisters, Mary Wolkonocki, Lottie Prymas and Jane Kopytowski. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the Robert E. Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at the funeral home with the Rev. Arthur Pechillo officiating. Burial will be in the spring.
