TUCSON, Ariz – Stanley Michael Conners Jr., 85, passed away Jan. 15, 2006, in Tucson, Ariz. after a brief illness. A native of Bangor, he was born Sept. 9, 1920, to Nina and Stanley M. Conners Sr. One of eight children, he attended John Bapst High School, Husson College and the University of Maine. Stanley was a World War II veteran, having served as marksman, forward observer and staff sergeant for the 152nd Field Artillery Battalion in its campaign in the Pacific Theater, including Guadalcanal, the Northern Solomans, New Guinea and Luzon. Among numerous decorations and honors, he was awarded the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Star. In 1947, he married his childhood sweetheart, Marie Tsoulas and enjoyed a successful career as an entrepreneur in the Bangor area. He owned and operated several businesses including Consumer’s Reliance Company, The Cheese House, Mr. Paperback and as a audiologist, Pine State Belltone Hearing Aid Service, Inc. He retired to Tucson, Ariz. in 1985, where he remained active in his church and other community activities. He was an avid golfer until his death at 85. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie; as well as three children, Pamela Conners of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Tokarz of Purchase, N.Y. and Michael Conners of Bangor; six grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Leanne Walter, Andrew and Justin Tokarz and Michael Conners; one great-grandchild, Kasey Walter; two brothers, Bill and Frank; two sisters, Rosemary Malcolm and Joyce Caffery. He was predeceased by brother, Linwood; and sisters, Althea Washburn and Gloria Cormier. He will be remembered as an adoring husband, devoted father and loving grandfather. Known for his kindness and compassion, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held in the spring in his hometown of Bangor.
