DIXMONT – Stephen E. Harris, 84, died May 13, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Dixmont, the son of Ernest M. and Mida M. (Patterson) Harris. He was educated in Dixmont schools and graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Class of 1940. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force. On May 28, 1949, Stephen married Glenys I. (Ward) in Brewer. He owned and operated a lumber mill in Dixmont for several years and worked on construction as a carpenter and millwright. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 201 of Dixmont. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenys I. Harris of Dixmont; two sons, Gary and his wife, Karen Harris, of Hubbardston, Mass., Ronald Harris and his companion, Judith Pelotte, of Dixmont; three grandchildren and their companions, Ronald Harris Jr. and Cristina Mills of Dixmont, Andrew Harris and Melanie McCurdy of Dixmont, Laurie Harris and Brian Camire of South Portland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by and infant son, Michael; four brothers, Clarence, Cecil, Ralph, Raymond; and a sister, Irene Ryder. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 34 High St., Newport. Private funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, at the funeral home with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
