STEPHEN PEARL GRINDLE

SEAL HARBOR – Stephen Pearl Grindle, 56, died Oct. 13, 2005 in Seal Harbor. He was born Sept. 9, 1949, in Bar Harbor, the son of Pearl M. and Avis P. (Whitten) Grindle. He graduated from Mount Desert High School in 1967 and from Unity College in 1972, with a degree in Forestry and Marine Biology. Steve owned and operated Floral Ledge Greenhouses since 1978 and he was caretaker for East Point Estates for 34 years. Steve served as treasurer of Seal Harbor Fire Department for many years and was former treasurer for the Seal Harbor Library. He was a member of the Northeast Harbor Masonic Lodge No. 208 AF & AM, the Scottish Rites Bodies of Bangor and the Consistory No. 32 of Portland and the Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor and a past member of the Northeast Harbor Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Lee Grindle of Seal Harbor; five stepchildren, Kelley and husband, Peter Williams of Orland, Christine and husband, Jeff Morrison of Bucksport, Stephen Hardy and wife, Aimee, of Portland, Ore., Benjamin Weir and Gerry Weir, both of Boca Grande, Fla.; four sisters, Onalee Fritz of Atlantic, Ga., Hortense and Arthur Abbott, Susan J. Grindle and Janice Collucci, all of Seal Harbor; niece, Michele and husband, Charles Croan, of Seal Harbor; and niece and nephew, Wendy and Michael Fritz of Atlanta, Ga.; special great-nephew, Chuck and wife, Kris Croan and their son, Kody; mother-in-law, Stella Soucie of Brewer; sister-in-law, Catherine Soucie of Kansas City; two brothers-in-law, Ken and Dan Soucie of Brewer; two nephews, Ryan and Aaron Soucie; and one great-nephew, Nolan Soucie, all of Bucksport. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor with the Rev. Jonathan Appleyard officiating. Interment will be at Seal Harbor Cemetery. There will be a reception following the burial at the Seal Harbor Fire House.
