DETROIT – Steven L. Duke, 43, died Aug. 29, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Oct. 19, 1962, in Altus, Okla., the son of Delbert and Frances (Clark) Duke. He was educated in Oklahoma schools. For many years Steven was employed as a potato farmer in the Corinna area. He owned and operated Duke and Family Trucking Co. in Detroit for several years. Steven enjoyed taking care of his gardens and when he was able, he liked to hunt and fish. He is survived by his long time companion of 21 years, Bobette “Bob” (Herbest) Bishop of Detroit; his father, Delbert Duke of Altus Okla.; one son, Steven “Pooh” Duke II of Detroit; three daughters, Shylah “Gumby” McGraw of Bangor, Manda “Mae Mae” Duke of Detroit, Destiny “Pea” Duke of Detroit; three brothers, Ray Duke of Altus, Okla., James Duke of Altus, Okla., George Duke of Lawton, Okla.; three sisters, Angie Whittemore of Shawnee, Okla., Rosie Duke of Altus, Okla., Vicky Clark of California; two grandchildren, Shyann McGraw and Domanic Boyd, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered by his special parents, Alton and Elizabeth Herbest of Hermon and all the rest of the Herbest family. He was predeceased by his brother, Freddie Duke of Altus, Okla. Aug. 5, 2006. A celebration of Steven’s life will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Duke home, 72 Bragg Road, Detroit.
