CARMEL – Stewart C. Yorks, 87, died April 8, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Dallas, Penn., the son of Harold and Evaline (Johnson) Yorks. He was a graduate of Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, Pa., and the University of Maine, where he earned a master’s degree. He served as a lieutenant and pilot in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945, during World War II. An educator most of his life, he first taught at Garland Street Junior High, Bangor, and went on to teach at Bryant University, Smithfield, R.I., for more than 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, photography, fishing and fly tying. He was a member of the Maine Iris Society, the Maine Hosta Society and Trout Unlimited. Later in life, he especially enjoyed his fishing trips with his many fishing buddies. He was predeceased by a daughter, Dena Marie Yorks in 1966. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Frances (Kilburn) Yorks of Carmel; a son, Jeffrey Yorks of Little Compton, R.I.; three grandchildren, Derek, Liza and Adam Yorks, all of Little Compton, R.I. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Barrington, R.I. Arrangements are by Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer.
