FORT FAIRFIELD and DOVER-FOXCROFT – Family and friends of Suellen Ashfield are sad to announce that she passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. Suellen was born Valentine’s Day in 1952, in Fort Fairfield, to Robert and Theresa (LaPointe) Ashfield. She moved often as a child with her family and attended many different schools before finishing high school at age 17 in Savannah, Ga. After the birth of her son, Michael, she returned to Maine to raise her son and be with family. Seven years later she became stepmother to Lorne and Todd, and five years after that, she finally added a daughter to the bunch with Samantha Sue. A kind, patient and loving mother, she “adopted” many of her children’s friends. A few who remained very dear to her heart were Peter, Sarah and Dave. A grandmother as well, Suellen was proud of having such beautiful grandchildren and she thought very highly of her daughter-in-law, Trisha. She was special to her friends and in her heart she carried always thoughts of her first best friend, her brother, Wayne. Suellen took different turns during her years in the working field. She had jobs at Brooks Pharmacy, Fort Fairfield and at Rite-Aid, Dover-Foxcroft. She was most proud of her work helping children in special education at the Dr. Lewis S. Libby School, Milford. She was also proprietor of North Meets South Restaurant, Dover-Foxcroft. Suellen was predeceased by two brothers, Randy and Donny. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Theresa Ashfield; her son, Michael Sherwood and his wife, Trisha; her daughter, Samantha-Sue Sherwood; her stepsons, Lorne and Todd Sherwood; two granddaughters, Meaghan and Gia; two grandsons, Alden and Jacob; one sister, Michelle Jenkins and her husband, Larry; two brothers, Wayne Ashfield and his wife, Bobbi, and Cristopher and his wife, Sue; a large family that was much loved and some very dear friends who stuck with her through the end, William, Kathi and David. She was a flower child who believed in compassion, joy and freedom. She now truly has freedom. She will be missed, but with us always in our hearts, in memories of sweeter days, just as she would wish it to be. At Suellen’s request, there will be a gathering to celebrate her life, attended by family and friends.
