JONESBORO – Susie Whelan, 85, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. Susie lived most of her life in Massachusetts raising her children. She returned to Maine after retiring with her husband, Jack. Susie was a wonderful mother and loving grandmother. She loved to knit, sew, feed the birds and go to Meals for Me. She had been a member of Jonesboro Union Church for many years. She was also treasurer of Machias Valley Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her parents, John H. and Ella (Sinclair) Geel. She was also predeceased by her husband, John J. Whelan Sr. in 2004; and by five brothers, Philip, Alonzo, Carlton, Andrew and Henry. Family members include her children, Carol S. Urquhart and husband, Dana, of Jonesboro and Ella Spearin and husband, Wayne, of Taunton, Mass.; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five siblings, June Baird, Daisy Herger, Flora Polaskey, Royce Geel, all of Jonesboro and Roma Batson of Jonesport. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 6 Cooper St., Machias, with Pastor Pam Mushero officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may visit with the family 11 a.m. until the hour of the service Tuesday. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Jonesboro. www.bragdonkelley.com
