NEWPORT – Suzanne M. Smith, 62, died June 4, 2005, at her Newport home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born Aug. 5, 1942, in Bangor, the daughter of Blake and Marguerite (Benjamin) Smith. She graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1959 and from Aroostook State Teachers College in 1963. She began teaching at the Levant Consolidated School in September 1963. Her career continued there for over 40 years with the last three decades as principal. Her love and commitment for children and community were evident in her everyday approach to life. She is survived by Molly Cat; two brothers, and their wives, Stephen and Dawn Smith of Levant, Sterling and Gail Smith of Dover-Foxcroft; her sister and husband, Sandra and Rick Guyer of Tampa, Fla.; 10 nieces and nephews, Wendie Lagasse, Jennifer Brewer, Kevin Noyes, Holly Owens, Blake Smith, Roger Smith, Michael Smith, Trent Smith, Stephanie Ware, and JoAnna St. Louis; her girl friday, Sherry Perry of 25 years; special friends, Bub and Peggy Curry, Linda Nickerson, Lena Estes, Lorri “Old Dog” Day, Candy Devlin, Paul Whitney, and her guardian angles, Faith and Steve. Suzanne wants her legacy to be one of kindness and love. Please offer the world a smile and a helping hand in her memory. She was predeceased by her parents, and her infant twin brother. A Celebration of her Life will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Suzanne M. Smith Elementary School, Levant. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the service.
