BANGOR – Sydney J. Page, Jr., 75, died Nov. 13, 2003, at a Bangor hospital after a courageous 22-year battle with Parkinson’s disease with his family by his side. He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Bangor, the son of Sydney J. and Thelma (Colbath) Page. He attended Orono schools and after serving his country in the Army during World War II. Sydney graduated with a BS degree from the University of Maine. Upon graduation, he was employed as an accountant in Maine and New York. He accepted a position n Los Angles, Calif., as an administrator with the Los Angeles County board of Education. Due to his disability, he retired in 1985, and moved back to Maine to be near his family. Sydney had a keen interest in electronics and photography and enjoyed spending time with his brother and wife and his niece and nephew. His disability didn’t keep him from traveling extensively to many interesting places with his family and friends. He is survived by two brothers, Robert of Davis, Calif., and Brian and his wife, Paula, of Orono; his niece, Karen and her husband, Jeff Irwin; and son, Jacob, of Portland; and his nephew, Stephen Page and fianc‚e, Jennifer Shiao of Natick, Mass.; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Sydney J. and Thelma C. Page. The family would like to thank Dr. Ritter, the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Maine Veterans Home for their compassionate care, and the caregivers who helped Sydney at his home and traveled weekly to obtain his lottery tickets, one producing $20,000 in winnings. A service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, with Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy Services at EMMC, officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of the service Sunday.
